- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla, and mix well.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter into two equal portions. In one portion, stir in additional cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor.
- Scoop alternating tablespoons of the two batters into each cupcake liner.
- Swirl a toothpick through the batters for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool before frosting.
