Easy Roast Turkey

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Stuff the cavity with the onion and lemon quarters.
  6. Place the turkey breast side up in a roasting pan and add chicken broth to the bottom.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with foil and roast in the preheated oven.
  8. Roast for about 13-15 minutes per pound, basting every 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil for the last hour of cooking.
  10. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  11. Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add herbs such as rosemary and sage to the butter mixture.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
