- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup pastry cream
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add warmed milk, eggs, and melted butter, then mix to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, roll out the dough and cut into circles.
- Place a spoonful of pastry cream in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough over and seal the edges.
- Let the filled dough rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the bomboloni until golden brown on both sides.
- Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.
